Security
It may seem counter-intuitive, but the chances are
that a VIG online application is more secure than
an application on your own PC. Because all of our systems are exposed
to the internet, we have to take security very seriously - in fact it
is fundamental to everything we do. We recognise that security has many
elements:
- Physical security. Our
servers are housed in an extremely secure data centre, with electronic
access control and security systems. The facility is in an geologically
stable area of Auckland, and boasts state-of-the-art climate control,
fire detection and suppression systems.
- Power Supply. All servers
are powered by redundant power supplies, battery UPS and an auto-start
generator.
- Network. Our internet
connectivity is multi-homed to three redundant bandwidth providers, and
is peered to the Auckland (APE) and Wellington (WIX) exchanges.
- Back-ups. All application
data is backed up daily to a secure international service.
- Operating System. All our
servers run on Linux, renowned for security and stability. Our staff
apply security patches promptly, and actively monitor intrusion
attempts.
- Application Security. Our
application framework provides secure access to authorised users only.
The framework has passed a security review and penetration test by a
major international bank with flying colours.
So unless your laptop is chained to your wrist,
and you are unusually fastidious about back-ups and software updates,
your application and data are safer with VIG.
